Sustainable Agriculture for a Resilient Future

Empowering Farmers in Hue through
Green Innovation

Agriculture remains the backbone of many rural communities in Vietnam, yet small-scale farmers often struggle with unstable market prices, climate change, and limited access to modern techniques. In response, REACH launched the Sustainable Agriculture for a Resilient Future initiative, starting with a pilot project in Hương An, Quảng Nam. This program supports eco-friendly farming, economic empowerment, and community resilience, helping farmers build sustainable and climate-smart livelihoods.

A Model for Sustainable Green Onion Farming

Huong An District, Hue was selected for this pilot due to its strong agricultural base and high potential for green onion farming. Over the past six months, REACH has worked closely with 52 farming households, providing hands-on training, financial support, and technical guidance.

Community-led sustainability: Encouraging local ownership so that knowledge and benefits extend beyond the project’s timeline.

Key Achievements

52 farmers trained in organic farming techniques, including the use of bio-fertilizers and natural pest control.

20% increase in green onion yield compared to conventional methods.

Reduction of chemical fertilizers by 30%, promoting healthier soil and environmental sustainability.

Formation of farmer groups to improve collective bargaining power and market access.

Three new buyer partnerships secured, ensuring better prices for local farmers.

Expanding Impact Beyond Hue

Following the success of this pilot phase, REACH is working to scale the model to other provinces, adapting it to local crops and climate conditions. By equipping farmers with the skills and tools for resilient, high-value agriculture, we are not only increasing household incomes but also contributing to a more sustainable food system in Vietnam.
